Nod, you have a non-US bike. Suzuki discontinued the Savage after the 1988 model year in the USA and then reintroduced it in 1995.
Before you tinker to much you should consider a few things.
#1 Gas milage will suffer
#2 The Hydrocarbon and Co2 emmissions will increase.
#3 The Suzuki Model 24C2 carburetor(Nod's) calls for a #130 main jet and #47.5 pilot jet. It also has a larger throttle valve(which will restrict airflow),a smaller needle jet(which will restrict fuel flow), and a smaller jet needle(which will allow less fuel to flow on acceleration).
So...unless you plan on replacing all these parts, it would be wise to pay heed to the Service Techs advice.
